Claudio Fenocchio belongs to the fifth generation of winemakers who have managed the family business since 1864. Claudio was born in that yellow house which for him is a symbol of tradition, history, attachment to the earth. From an early age he helped his father in the work in the vineyard and in the cellar, who managed to transmit his attachment to Piedmontese traditions and the importance of keeping them alive. In 1989, due to the death of his father, he finds himself assuming all the responsibilities of a farm, from work in the vineyards, to work in the cellar to the entire commercial part.
Also supported by his wife Nicoletta, after a first difficult period in which the fear of not being able to make mistakes reigned, he manages everything perfectly: with the advent of a modernist style, Claudio remains clinging to traditions and slowly expands that company which in the beginning could count on 6-7 hectares of vineyards, while now 14: most of the plots are located around the winery in the Bussia Sottana, what Claudio's father defined the heart of Barolo being geographically the center of the production, while the rest in the Villero, Castellero and Cannubi crus. The grapes grown are the traditional ones of Langa, Dolcetto, Freisa, Barbera and Nebbiolo, with the addition of Arneis grown in the small plot purchased in the Roero 5 years ago. Claudio is not interested in organic certification but the practices in the vineyard are still based on principles of sustainability, reducing the use of herbicides and chemical fertilizers to zero, as evidenced by the many varieties of herbs present in the vineyard. The cellar was completely built in 1997 and houses steel tanks for fermentation and long maceration. After five months in stainless steel, the wines undergo two years of aging in large oak barrels before being bottled. The use of the large barrel alone limits the aromas coming from the wood, enhancing the characteristics of Nebbiolo and its terroir, giving sincere, elegant and pleasant wines.
