List of products by brand Mauro Veglio
We were born and raised on the hills of Barolo, the wine we fell in love with and dedicated our lives and passions to.
Our family's history is deeply linked to La Morra and to the peasant roots of this slice of Langa, which in a few decades has been able to reinvent itself, discovering an international vocation.
Our small size still allows for simple, family-run management: his wife Daniela and brother Elio soon chose to work alongside Mauro, the one taking care of visitor reception and office work, and the second with his expertise in vineyard management. The winery currently consists of about 12 hectares, between La Morra and Monforte d'Alba, and the average annual production is about 60,000 bottles, almost half of which are Barolo Docg wine.
The choice to "do quality" characterizes all stages of production: The smaller quantity of bunches per vine means less stress and more natural rhythms for the plants, which, in addition to encouraging optimal ripening of the bunches, are healthier and more resistant to pests. Treatments are kept to a minimum, using almost exclusively the traditional sulfur and verdigris, or copper sulfate, which are also used in organic farming as they have proven to be non-toxic to either humans or the environment. Respect, for nature, for the vine and for our territory, and the search for balance in the result are the fundamental elements that guide our choices. It is our philosophy of life, beyond the stereotypes of "traditionalists" or "innovators."
We believe in innovation, but not when it means manipulation or forcing. With short, temperature-controlled macerations in new-generation rotofermenters and aging in small oak barrels, we obtain wines that are more elegant and less aggressive due to the reduced tannic load, and also more concentrated than in the past, but because of the improved quality of the grapes, not artificially. All fermentations are carried out naturally, without the addition of yeast or anything else, and the wines are bottled normally without the use of filtration or clarification.
Four Barolo crus are produced: Arborina, Rocche and Gattera, located in La Morra, and Castelletto, owned by Daniela's family, in the commune of Monforte d'Alba. Nebbiolo is extremely sensitive to differences in soil and microclimate, so each vineyard leaves its own singular imprint that characterizes the wine and gives meaning to this fragmentation of labels, and the age of the vines also plays a very important role, so with grapes from the younger vineyards we produce Langhe Nebbiolo "Angelo." Again, the age of the vineyards and better exposure differentiates the Barbera d'Alba Cascina Nuova, which is more concentrated and aged in wood, from the Barbera d'Alba, which is simpler and fresher and aged only in steel like the Dolcetto d'Alba. A special place goes to L'Insieme, a wine made from the blend of the best Nebbiolo and Barbera with Cabernet Sauvignon, which is above all the concrete symbol of a solidarity friendship among eight small Langa producers that allows them to work together to improve the quality level of the wines and in addition, through the L'Insieme Association, to communicate the values of union and cooperation not only within the group, but by allocating Euro 5.16 (10. 000 old lira) for each bottle produced into a solidarity fund that finances various development initiatives around the world every year.
